In the book "Food for Life", Gill Bacchus concludes that modern science does not yet have a method to discover, prove and measure those life processes that directly indicate the quality of food. By studying and practicing Rudolf Steiner's (Rudolf Steiner, 1861-1925) ideas of biodynamic agriculture, the author of the book has become convinced that human health, which is not only the perfection of the physical body, but also awareness, the ability to think and feel, directly depends on how wisely we take care of ourselves. Jill Backus gives advice on how each of us can learn to recognize good quality food rich in Light and Life - by taste, smell and appearance. And we can learn to grow it ourselves.
The nutritional value of food varies greatly depending on how the produce was grown, harvested and processed. Food is not just a set of nutrients, food is vital energy - life. To maintain physical, mental and emotional health, it is not enough to eat every day, observing the correct amount and proportion of minerals and vitamins. The invisible life of Earth, Air, Fire and Water flowing around plants in a healthy and living soil helps to grow healthy fruits, roots and leaves that feel the influence of the planets and stars on our Earth and its inhabitants - people, animals, plants. Only plants grown in healthy soil can be resonating, rhythmically enriched, connected with the energy of the universe and rich in nutrients.
Jill Backus obtained a Master's degree in biodynamic agriculture in 2003, was an advisor to the Australian and New Zealand governments in the development of agricultural policy, was a lecturer on organic and biodynamic agriculture topics for many years, and currently helps New Zealand schools to set up root and fruit gardens.
